Who do we support?
For many years CCS has supported people of all ages throughout New Zealand with a wide variety of impairments, as well their families.

We have grown beyond our original focus on children with physical disabilities.

How do we work?
We support individuals and families to live the life they want to lead, by working alongside them in a flexible and supportive way. It is very personalised. It is more about a way of working and thinking than a set of programmes to choose from. We combine information, advocacy, direct support, and connection with other people who can support you, to achieve the lifestyle that you and your family want.

We want to make available to you and your family the ordinary opportunities available to all New Zealanders to learn, have relationships, have a home, work and participate in the community, and belong in a cultural and spiritual tradition.

We call this way of working supported lifestyles.

Listed below is more detail about the kinds of support we offer. Please contact your local branch for more information, as some of these services are not available in all areas.

Supported Lifestyles – Children and Family
We get to know families, and support them to have the life for their child and themselves that they want. We advocate alongside them within the disability support and health systems and early childhood and school settings. We find creative ways to work with whanau, extended family, and the wider community to ensure the child is included and everybody gets the time out they need.

Early Intervention
Early Intervention identifies and helps babies and young children reach their full potential if they are significantly delayed or at risk of delay in their development.

Supporting Maori
We work with all families of disabled children and want to support Maori families in ways that fit culturally with them. Our Maori Strategic framework provides workers with overall guidelines and in many regions you will get the opportunity to work with a Maori or non-Maori staff member. All staff receive support and training on tikanga and how to work well with you as Maori.

Children in Care
When care and protection issues arise with disabled children and CYF are involved, we endeavour to keep children living with and connected to their extended family or another family in the community.

Transition Services
Students and their family/whanau need to be informed of their choices and be able to participate in making decisions about their future when leaving school. Transition services are the process of supporting young people to move from school to work, training or other community participation activities.

Supported Employment
Supported employment gives people with disabilities the opportunity to access job placement in the open labour market. CCS works with people to identify, access and maintain integrated paid employment of their choice so that they can earn the financial remuneration and other employment benefits including annual leave, sick leave and training opportunities, that other employees expect.

Community Participation
People participate in their communities in many different ways. Participating and contributing to your community is a right and a need for all people. CCS Disability Action works with disabled people and their families to assist them to access and be involved in a range of community based vocational activities.

Supported Living
People should be able to exercise choice over where and with whom they live. Supported Living is focused on working with people to arrange and coordinate the provision of the types of supports that will enable people to live in a home of their choice.

Total Mobility
We work with people to see if they are eligible for Total Mobility, a voucher scheme giving subsidies on taxis for people who may not be able to access public transport.

Mobility Parking Permit Scheme
The Mobility Parking Permit Scheme is an officially recognised concession-parking scheme that supports people to have more access within their communities. A Mobility Parking Permit enables a permit holder to park in accessible reserved parking spaces (mobility parks) and in some cases park longer than the stated time in standard cark parks and metered spaces.
