CCS Disability Action’s Northern Region is running a series of community hui for Māori with a disability to provide a platform for voices that are often marginalised. It’s hoped that the hui, dubbed Karanga Maha, Many Voices, will attract Māori from iwi and hapu across Auckland and lead to stronger guidance and presence from Māori. Accessible housing is an issue that’s been put in the “too hard basket” for too long according to Whangarei Accessible Housing Trustee Vanassa McGoldrick. The housing trust is one of only two social housing trusts in the country to specifically address the gap in housing need for people with a disability.
