Job specific information

The Project SEARCH internship programme based at Burwood Hospital is a one-year, full-time course for students with learning/intellectual disabilities in their last year of school. The whole year is spent on the site of the host business (being Te Whatu Ora Waitaha), where interns undertake a variety of internships across a range of departments at this rehabilitation/aged care hospital. The programme outcome is competitive employment in the entry level job market and the job coach is a key member of the onsite team.

The Job Coach performs a range of activities designed to assist interns of the Project SEARCH programme to achieve competitive employment. This will involve both working alongside the interns during their internships, and in job searching and employment as an in-work support person.

You will:

  • Provide aspirational job development, placement and follow-along support services.
  • Identify student interns’ strengths, interests, skills and abilities related to preparation and securing sustained employment with a local employer.
  • Determine what supports and/or adaptations may be required for the intern’s training to employment journey.

Develop strong relationships with the interns/families, onsite team, hospital staff, supported employment coordinator and local employers and associated agencies.
