This role is for an Early Intervention Teacher to provide ongoing education support services within the home, early childhood centre and community. We are a transdisciplinary, family-directed early intervention service for children from birth to school age with, or at risk of developing a disability.

About the role:

  • Coordinate high quality services that are creative, flexible, and responsive to the needs of disabled people and their families / whānau. 

  • Services focus on improving / maintaining inclusion of disabled people within their families / whānau and the wider community.

  • Coordinate delivery of contracted services which meet the funders’ specifications.

  • Work in ways which are consistent with the Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

  • Maintain a high standard of professional and organisational behaviour and practice.

  • Using standardised tools assess the cognitive and social needs of children who have been referred for Early Intervention services. Communicate and document these needs appropriately.  

  • Ensure goals and frequency of visits are holistic, transdisciplinary and take into account the changing needs of the child and family / whānau. 

  • Family and whānau are consulted as integral team members; are educated and upskilled in the management of the needs of their child and empowered to work effectively with them. 

  • Recognise safety issues for children, young people and vulnerable adults, respond to these and refer to appropriate supports / organisations (internal and external).

  • Attend, participate in and seek training / professional development opportunities (including internal and external supervision).

  • Develop and maintain community connections and networks; and promote the concept of inclusion and community development.

  • Recruitment, supervise, and daily management of Education Support Workers (ESWs).

  • Provide professional support, guidance, feedback, supervision, as well as plan and provide professional development opportunities for ESWs. 

  • Undertake general administration and other tasks as agreed with your team leader and as required to support the team.

About you:

  • Bachelor of Teaching - Early Childhood (or equivalent) AND

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching - Early Intervention. 

  • A minimum of three years teaching experience and a deep knowledge of child development, learning and behaviour.

  • Experience in working with children with additional learning needs would be an advantage.

  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.

  • Understanding of family-centred and family-directed intervention and planning.

  • A knowledge or willingness to learn standardised assessments such as The Carolina Curriculum and Bayley-4 Developmental Assessment.

  • Is committed to providing quality services to disabled children and their families and whānau.

  • Strong time management and organisational skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and reporting skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to establish effective relationships with families / whānau, early childhood services and other agencies.

  • Understanding and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Full NZ driver’s license.
