This role is for a New Zealand Registered Physiotherapist to provide home and community-based physiotherapy services as part of the CCS Disability Action Early Intervention Team. The team provide family directed, transdisciplinary early intervention services for children, from birth to school age, who are disabled, or at risk of developing an impairment.

About the role:

  • Coordinate high quality services that are creative, flexible, and responsive to the needs of disabled people and their families / whānau.  Services focus on improving / maintaining inclusion of disabled people within their families / whānau and the wider community.

  • Coordinate delivery of contracted services which meet the funders’ specifications.

  • Work in ways which are consistent with the Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

  • Maintain a high standard of professional and organisational behaviour and practice.

  • Using standardised tools assess the physical needs of children who have been referred for Early Intervention services. Communicate and document these needs appropriately.  

  • Ensure goals and frequency of visits for therapy are holistic, transdisciplinary and takes into account the changing needs of the child, family and whānau. 

  • Family and whānau are consulted as integral team members; are educated and upskilled in the management of the physical needs of their child and empowered to work effectively with them. 

  • Assess, apply for, and provide essential equipment, through the funding authorities, for the children we support, such as standing and walking equipment and wheelchairs.

  • Recognise safety issues for children, young people and vulnerable adults.  Respond to these and refer to appropriate supports / organisations (internal and external).

  • Attend, participate in and seek training / professional development opportunities (including internal and external supervision).

  • Develop and maintain community connections and networks; and promote the concept of inclusion and community development.

  • To undertake other tasks as agreed with your Team Leader.

About you:

  • A degree in physiotherapy (or equivalent qualification).

  • Current New Zealand registration with The Physiotherapy Board.

  • A current practicing certificate.

  • Experience in working with children with additional learning needs would be an advantage.

  • Experience or knowledge of orthotic prescription would be an advantage.

  • Enable NZ Accreditation for Seating and Wheelchairs would be an advantage.  

  • Understanding of family centered, and family directed intervention and planning.

  • Is committed to providing quality services to disabled children and their families and whānau.

  • Strong time management and organisational skills.

  • Driver’s license or have access to transport.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and reporting skills.

  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
